Prerequisites

• Know whether you have a Personal (5GB/1TB) or Business (1TB+) plan.

Instructions

1. Direct Delete (Files You No Longer Need)

Delete large files from the web interface to ensure they are gone everywhere.

1. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon > View online.
2. Log in if prompted.
3. Select large files you don't need and click Delete.
4. Important: Go to the Recycle bin (left menu) and empty it to reclaim space immediately.

2. Use "Free Up Space" (Keep Files in Cloud Only)

This frees up space on your computer, but keeps the file safe in the cloud.

1. Open File Explorer.
2. Right-click the OneDrive folder (or specific large files).
3. Select Free up space.
4. The icon will change from a green checkmark to a blue cloud. The file is still safe online but uses 0 bytes on your PC.

3. Stop Syncing Unwanted Folders

If you accidentally synced a massive folder you don't need.

1. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon > Settings.
2. Go to Account > Choose folders.
3. Uncheck the folders you do not need on this PC.
4. Click OK. These folders will remain in the cloud but disappear from your computer.
