Corrections ​

Microsoft renames menus and retires features constantly, and sometimes a published guide turns out to be wrong. When that happens, the article is fixed and the correction is recorded here - newest first, with what the guide used to say. Updated dates track edits; this page tracks only things the site previously said that were not true.

  • 26 August 2026 - How to Add Apps, Tabs, and Files to a Teams Channel: This guide said Planner tabs (including Tasks by Planner and To Do) were unsupported in private and shared Teams channels. Microsoft rolled out that support in August 2026 and the guide has been corrected.
  • 16 August 2026 - How to Transfer MFA to a New Phone (Microsoft 365): This guide said the Cloud Backup feature in Microsoft Authenticator restores your account tokens on a new phone. Microsoft's documentation states that for a work or school account only the account name is backed up, and that you have to sign in again when you restore it — so a backup on its own does not get you back into Microsoft 365. The guide has been corrected.
  • 16 August 2026 - How to Configure Email and Work Apps on a New Phone: This guide said you set up work email on a new phone by restoring Microsoft Authenticator from cloud backup. Microsoft's documentation states that for a work or school account only the account name is backed up, and that you have to sign in again when you restore it — so the backup alone does not get you back into Microsoft 365. The guide has been corrected and now says to register the new phone before giving up the old one.
  • 14 August 2026 - Understanding Why Copilot Only Works in Excel for the Web (and How to Fix It): This guide said Copilot in desktop Excel requires AutoSave to be on. Microsoft's August 2026 release notes state Copilot now works in cloud-saved workbooks with AutoSave turned off, rolling out on Windows and Mac, and the guide has been corrected. Files still have to live in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  • 14 August 2026 - How to Share Your Screen in a Teams Meeting: This guide said the sharing options appear in a tray at the bottom of the meeting window with an Include computer sound toggle. Teams is rolling out a redesigned share panel attached to the Share button, near the top right, and the toggle is now labelled Include sound. The guide describes the new panel and keeps a note for older builds.
  • 14 August 2026 - How to Share Computer Sound in a Teams Meeting: This guide said the share options open in a tray along the bottom of the window and the sound toggle is labelled Include computer sound. On the redesigned share panel now rolling out, the panel opens attached to the Share button near the top right and the toggle is labelled Include sound. The guide covers both.
  • 11 August 2026 - How to Record a Teams Meeting: This guide said a standard calendar meeting recording is saved to the OneDrive of the person who clicked Start recording. Microsoft's documentation states that the recording saves to the organizer's OneDrive even when someone else recorded it, and that only 1:1 and group calls follow the person who selected Record. The guide has been corrected.
  • 11 August 2026 - How to Find a Teams Meeting Recording: This guide said a scheduled or ad hoc meeting recording is saved to the OneDrive of the person who started the recording. Microsoft's documentation states that the recording saves to the organizer's OneDrive even when someone else recorded it, and that only 1:1 and group calls follow the person who selected Record. The guide has been corrected.
  • 10 August 2026 - How to Use Quick Steps in Outlook: Quick Steps was described as Classic-only, and readers were told to switch back to Classic Outlook to use it. It is available in new Outlook for work and school accounts, under Settings > Mail > Quick Steps rather than on the ribbon. Two other articles had already been corrected on 2026-08-03; this one, the guide actually about Quick Steps, had not.
  • 10 August 2026 - How to Search Slack for Old Messages and Files: The article taught has:attachment and has:link as search modifiers, and its FAQ taught has:file. Slack's own documentation lists has:pin, has:star, has:reaction and has::emoji: only, and points to the Files tab for finding files. All three unsupported modifiers were replaced with the documented route.
  • 9 August 2026 - How to Use the Scheduling Assistant in Outlook: This guide told readers to send meeting polls with the FindTime add-in, and its troubleshooting section told them to install it from File > Get Add-ins. Microsoft retired FindTime and replaced it with Scheduling Poll, which is built into Outlook; the add-in stopped working in December 2023. Step 3 now covers Scheduling Poll, with the entry point given per Outlook client.
  • 9 August 2026 - How to Create and Manage Teams Channels: This guide said team owner permission is required to create channels. Microsoft's documentation states that by default any team owner or team member can create a private channel, and the guide has been corrected.
  • 9 August 2026 - How to Create a New Team in Microsoft Teams: This guide said team members can create channels only where an owner has allowed it. Microsoft's documentation states that creating a private channel is open to team members by default, and the guide has been corrected.
  • 9 August 2026 - How to Connect to a Remote Desktop (RDP) on Windows: This guide told readers to install a Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft removed that app from the Store on 27 May 2025 and ended support for it in September 2025, so it can no longer be downloaded or installed. That section now covers installing Windows App instead.
  • 3 August 2026 - Understanding the Missing Features in "New" Outlook: This said new Outlook cannot handle PST files. Export shipped in mid-2025 and import during 2026, so the migration advice that followed from it was out of date. Opening a PST still needs Classic Outlook installed at a matching architecture.

  • 3 August 2026 - How to Use Microsoft Copilot in Windows: This described Copilot as a sidebar opened with Win+C. That sidebar was retired; Win+C opens the Copilot app in its own window. The instruction to change a Windows setting by typing 'Turn on dark mode' was also wrong — Copilot points you at the Settings page instead of changing it.

Export shipped in mid-2025 and import during 2026, so the migration advice that followed from it was out of date. Opening a PST still needs Classic Outlook installed at a matching architecture.
