How to Fix OneDrive Not Starting or Missing Icon

Instructions

1. Manually Launch OneDrive

The most common cause is that the app was closed.

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type OneDrive.
3. Click the OneDrive app.
4. Look for the cloud icon in the taskbar (bottom right) to appear.

2. Enable Start at Login

Ensure OneDrive runs every time you turn on your PC.

1. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon.
2. Click the Gear icon > Settings.
3. Select the Sync and backup alias (or Settings tab).
4. Ensure Start OneDrive when I sign in to Windows is toggled On.

3. Registry Fix (Advanced)

If OneDrive refuses to open at all, a policy might be blocking it.

1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive
3. Look for DisableFileSyncNGSC.
4. If it exists and is set to 1, change it to 0.
5. Restart your computer.
