Summary
This article guides you through fixing common issues that prevent personal smartphones from connecting to secure corporate Wi-Fi networks (often labeled as "Guest" or "BYOD" networks).
Symptoms
- Your phone asks for a password but repeatedly says "Incorrect password" even when typed correctly.
- The phone connects to the Wi-Fi but displays a "No Internet Connection" warning.
- Your iPhone prompts you to "Trust a Certificate" and the connection fails if you decline.
Prerequisites
- You must know your current corporate username and password.
Instructions
1. Trust the Security Certificate (iPhone/iPad)
- Corporate Wi-Fi networks use special security certificates to verify your identity.
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap your company's network name.
- Enter your corporate username and password (the same one you use for your computer).
- A screen titled Certificate will appear. Look at the top right corner and tap Trust.
- Your phone should now securely connect to the network.
2. Configure Advanced Settings (Android)
- Android phones sometimes require you to manually specify the security type for corporate networks.
- Go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi and tap your company's network name.
- If prompted for an EAP method, select PEAP.
- If prompted for Phase 2 authentication, select MSCHAPV2.
- Change the CA certificate dropdown to Use system certificates or Do not validate (depending on your IT department's specific policy).
- Enter your corporate username in the Identity field (leave Anonymous Identity blank).
- Enter your password and tap Connect.
3. Forget and Reconnect the Network
- If you recently changed your corporate password, your phone will fail to connect because it is trying to use the old password.
- On your phone, go to your Wi-Fi settings, tap the information icon (
ior gear) next to the network name, and select Forget This Network. - Tap the network name again and log in with your new password.
4. Verify Success
- Open a web browser on your phone and try loading a public website (like
google.com) to confirm you have internet access.

WARNING
Many corporate Wi-Fi networks are set up as "Captive Portals". This means that even after connecting, you must open a web browser and accept the Terms and Conditions before the internet will work.
| Symptom / Error | Potential Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| MAC Address randomization blocked | Security policy | Some companies block "Private Wi-Fi Addresses". Go to your Wi-Fi settings for the network and toggle off Private Wi-Fi Address or MAC Randomization. |
| Phone says "Connected without internet" | Captive portal | Open Safari or Chrome and navigate to neverssl.com to force the login page to appear. |
